AI Engineer(must be cracked)
Deploy AI systems that transform how contractors win deals in the real world
Location: New York, NY (In-person + field deployment)
About Craft
Craft is deploying AI that helps contractors close 40% more deals. We process millions of real conversations, deliver real-time coaching, and transform how home service businesses operate across a $700B industry.
But here's the challenge: AI doesn't just work out of the box for contractors. Their world is unique — different language, different workflows, different problems. That's why we need engineers who can deploy AI in the field, not from a desk.
We're backed by top investors and our AI already powers thousands of contractors. Now we need engineers who can take our models from the lab to the job site.
The Role: AI Engineer – Field Deployed
You'll be embedded with contractors running $10M+ businesses to understand their workflows and deploy AI systems that unlock revenue. You'll prototype in the morning, test with customers in the afternoon, and ship to production by end of week.
This is a field role. You'll spend time on job sites, in dispatch centers, and riding along on service calls. You'll see exactly how our AI performs in the real world and make it better on the spot.
You'll own the entire AI deployment lifecycle — from understanding the problem to training models to integrating with their systems to measuring impact. When customers win deals because of your work, you'll be there to see it happen.
What You'll Do
- Deploy AI in the Field: Embed with customers, understand their workflows, and implement AI solutions that solve real problems. Be onsite 50% of the time.
- Build & Ship Fast: Prototype AI features in the morning, test with customers in the afternoon, ship to production by Friday. Speed is everything.
- Optimize for Real-World Performance: Tune models for noisy environments, regional dialects, and industry jargon. Make AI work in basements with bad cell service.
- Train Custom Models: Fine-tune LLMs on contractor conversations. Build models that understand HVAC sales better than GPT-4. Deploy intelligence tailored to each customer.
- Own Customer Success: You're not just deploying tech — you're ensuring customers actually win with AI. Train teams, debug issues, optimize performance.
Who You Are
- 2-5+ years as an engineer shipping products at startups or high-velocity companies
- Strong Python and SQL skills, comfortable with REST APIs and modern AI frameworks (LangChain, OpenAI, etc.)
- Customer-obsessed — you want to be in the field, solving real problems for real people
- Excited to travel 25-50% — you'll embed with customers across the country
- Comfortable with ambiguity — you thrive when the problem isn't clearly defined
- Based in NYC or willing to relocate — home base is our NYC office when not in the field
- Bonus: Experience with LLMs, voice AI, or real-time speech processing
Why This Role Matters
AI That Actually Works
Deploy AI systems to businesses doing $100M+ in revenue. Your work directly impacts their bottom line — and you'll be there to see it.
Field + Engineering
Not just building models — deploying them in trucks, on roofs, in basements. Engineering where it matters most.
Rapid Iteration
Ship models daily, get immediate feedback, iterate based on real results. This is AI development at startup speed.
Own the Outcome
You're not a cog in the machine. Own entire deployments, shape our AI strategy, and build the playbook as we scale.
Most AI engineers build models in labs.
You'll deploy them in the real world and watch them generate millions.
