Forward Deployed Engineer(must be cracked)
Embed with contractors, ship code on job sites, and build AI that solves real problems in the field
Location: New York, NY (In-person + travel to customer sites)
About Craft
Craft builds AI that helps contractors win more deals. But here's the thing — contractors don't work in offices. They're in trucks, on roofs, in basements. Their problems are unique, urgent, and can't be solved from a desk in San Francisco.
That's why we embed our engineers directly with customers. You'll ride along on service calls, sit in dispatch meetings, and watch deals happen in real-time. Then you'll build solutions that actually work in the field.
This is engineering at its most impactful — solving mission-critical problems for the backbone of America's economy.
The Role: Forward Deployed Engineer
You'll spend half your time with customers and half your time shipping code. Monday you're riding with an HVAC tech in Ohio. Tuesday you're deploying a feature that fixes the exact problem you saw. Wednesday that tech closes an extra job because of what you built.
This isn't consulting — you're a full-stack engineer who happens to work from the front lines. You'll own entire features, from understanding the problem to shipping the solution to measuring the impact.
You'll be the bridge between our AI capabilities and real-world contractor needs. When customers have problems, you solve them. When engineering needs context, you provide it. When we need to move fast, you make it happen.
What You'll Do
- Embed with Customers: Spend days on job sites, in dispatch centers, and riding along on service calls. Understand their world better than they do.
- Ship Solutions Fast: See a problem on Monday, ship a fix by Friday. Build features, integrations, and tools that solve immediate customer pain.
- Own Customer Success: You're not just building features — you're ensuring customers actually succeed. Train teams, debug issues, optimize workflows.
- Create Field-Ready Features: Build tools that work in trucks, on ladders, and in noisy environments. Design for gloves, dirty hands, and bright sunlight.
- Shape Product Direction: Your field insights directly influence our roadmap. You'll know what to build because you've seen the problems firsthand.
Who You Are
- 2-5+ years as a full-stack engineer who ships fast and owns outcomes
- Love being on-site with customers — you get energy from solving real problems for real people
- Can build anything — React frontends, Python APIs, data pipelines, integrations, whatever it takes
- Comfortable with ambiguity — you thrive when the problem isn't clearly defined
- Can explain technical concepts to contractors who've never written code
- Excited to travel 25-50% — you'll visit customers across the country
- Based in NYC or willing to relocate — home base is our NYC office
- Bonus: Experience with field service software, mobile development, or building for non-technical users
Why This Role Is Unique
Engineering in the Field
Code on job sites. Deploy from trucks. Debug in dispatch centers. This is engineering where the action happens.
Real Impact, Real Fast
See your code help a contractor win a deal the same week you write it. Direct line from your work to customer revenue.
Shape the Product
Your field experience directly influences what we build. You're not just implementing — you're defining the solution.
Growth Path
Start as an IC, grow into leading our entire field engineering team. Clear path to senior technical leadership.
Most engineers build products from conference rooms.
You'll build them from the passenger seat of a contractor's truck.
